Cup that Would Not be Passed

Cup After supper, Jesus took bread and broke it and passed it to those who ate with Him. Likewise He took His cup of wine and passed it to those with Him. Later Jesus prayed to the Father, asking if there was another way to let the cup pass from Him; adding that the will of the Father be done and not His own will. Jesus had already prophesied the outcome of the hour, “Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour” (John 12:27). The cross of our Lord Jesus is the cup that would not be passed.
