again

You throw a dollar in the cup
Sitting on the sidewalk
Where I do my daily work
It doesn’t look like a job
But it’s the only one I have
Asking you for a little help

Tonight you’ve taken some time
To talk to me for a while
About your life and your plans
And how Jesus holds your hand
And He is holding mine too
See what a dollar bought for you

But will you respect me in the morning
When the sunshine splits my head
When the craving in my stomach
Is louder that the beating of my heart
If you knew how the dollar was spent
Would you still call me your brother

I want to thank you for your concern
Come back here again next week
Or any day between now and then
And share a piece of my sidewalk
Talk to me some more about the Lord
Talk to me like I’m your best friend, again
