I am not …

I work all night
Collecting alms
On the street corner
To feed the hunger
Crying in my veins
To quiet the voices
Telling me everything
I am not

When families meet
I am not
When dinners served
I am not
When night falls
And home is where the heart is
I am not

My pride is gone
My clothes are old
And borrowed from you
My shoes are worn out
And so is my heart
Pouring from my eyes
Are all the empty lies
In my life

Yes I take drugs
Yes I drink some
Sitting here each day
Sharing pain this way
The street is my church
I’m the preacher here
Sharing a truth of life
The poor with you always
Here I am

Did Jesus say
I am
The family of man
I am
When He comes
And brings all His brothers home
I am

Here I am
Jesus, take me home
